Saving Facebook posts offline – Why is this Important?

Chances are that you have many friends on Facebook. Chances are that this results in many more posts appearing in your newsfeed. Chances are that this also results in many “lost” posts – posts that you either miss altogether, or those that you try to find later by scrolling through your newsfeed and only see a “There are no more posts to show right now” message. Chances are that at such times you wring your hands in desperation and wish there was a way to save all those wonderful posts that your friends had put up. You would have been able to keep all those wonderful ‘nuggets’ of information then.

Then there’s all that other wonderful stuff that is available on facebook. From all the Fan Pages that you follow. People. Companies. Governments. They all put up so much of information on Facebook! Wouldn’t it be great if you as a Facebook user could save important posts offline? Create “Digital Diaries” or “Collections” that you could categorize by subject and share with others right away or at a later date?
So who would benefit from this?

Think of individuals who have varied interests. They could save posts around their interests and share these collections with their friends at any time. They could also keep them for future reference – much as one would a music or movie collection at home. What about Companies that need to communicate with customers and prospects about new products, services and support? Companies put up valuable information about themselves and their products on their fan pages – they could encourage their customers and fans to save important posts for future use and sharing with others. Professionals that need to remain updated with latest issues related to their professions would definitely see great value in saving important posts for future use and sharing with their clients. Governments that need to communicate with citizens on various subjects like Laws, Safety, Education, Health, Environment etc…(an endless list in itself!). They could encourage citizens to save important posts for future use and sharing with others.

There is enough reason and more to save facebook posts. This somehow seems to be a missing piece in the entire facebook story. A missing piece that needs to be addressed to allow all its users to find increased benefits from the mine of information that is being created and shared by the more than 500 million users on facebook today!
